Art Feast grows to 10-day event

2/10/2008 5:24:00 PM
Fresh food straight from the producer, fabulous wine and innovative local art: the Kangaroo Island Art Feast gives visitors all this in an environment renowned for natural beauty, clean air and inspirational landscapes.

Events take place all over the Island in spectacular cellar doors, top restaurants and galleries Island-wide.

The event has grown steadily since its inception four years ago and for the first time in 2008 will be stretched out beyond the Labour Day long weekend.

“We found there was simply too much on for people to enjoy over just one weekend,” said Art Feast co-ordinator David Cowans.

“By extending the event to 10 days it allows everyone - visitors and participants - to slow down and enjoy each individual event. All 15 venues are doing something different for the Art Feast and it is worth spending quality time at each.

“For an Island with a small population we have so many incredibly talented and passionate individuals. Our food industry won a national Vogue Entertaining award in 2007, our wineries continue to make a name for themselves, while more than 100 artists reside on the Island. Many of these artists have received national and even international praise for their work.”

The Art Feast will be opened officially at a cocktail function at Kaiwarra @ Seal Bay on Saturday, October 4 at 6pm. All are welcome to attend.

“October is always a fantastic time of year to visit Kangaroo Island. On top of the Art Feast we have other events taking place including the Cape Borda 150th Anniversary, Penneshaw Farmers Markets, KI Motor Fest and the Bike SA Annual Tour,” said Tourism KI regional manager Tania O’Neil.
