Sharon May received a Life Membership of the Parndana Sports Club on Sunday 7th September. Members were treated to a three course luncheon which was followed by an interesting talk from Fiona Bussenschutt (nee Pointon). Fiona, who played for the Thunderbirds, told us about her netball career and what it is like to play at an elite level.
Madelyn Kelly then presented a summary of Sharon’s achievements and current President, Bernie May presented Sharon with a plaque.
Sharon’s has been actively involved in four different sports at Parndana and also the Management of the Sports Club. Her achievements are truly outstanding. The following is a brief summary:
Parndana Netball Club:
Sharon began playing in 1978 and played until 2000 playing 219 games. She played in at least two premiership teams. Sharon won the prestigious title of “Netball Queen” in 1978.
She served on the committee for seven years, including one as secretary and three as President. She was also a delegate, club selector, coach and catering rep during this time. In 1998 Sharon was KINA secretary and minutes secretary. She was Parndana’s delegate on the KINA grading committee for four years. Sharon began umpiring in 2000 and has umpired regularly since this time. She umpired at Country Championships in 2001. Sharon has also been a manageress for Country Championships.
Sharon is still umpiring weekly.
Parndana Football Club
Sharon’s involvement started in the early ‘80s when she was actively involved in working bees and fund raising towards our new clubrooms.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and became the Catering Convenor in the late ‘80s. She has convened more than a dozen weddings and numerous other functions including football, netball and cricket association dinners.
Sharon has been an extremely efficient cater and has an amazing memory. She can quote recipes and catering amounts off the top of her head. This is a very rare gift for most of the women her age and we are all extremely envious!
Parndana Basketball Club
Sharon has played many games for Parndana and has been a member of a B grade and Masters Premiership team. She has done more than her fair share of scoring and timekeeping during this time. She is competent with using the electronic scoreboard in the rec centre and is often called on during finals.
Parndana Cricket Club
Sharon was the cricket rep on the Sports Club for seven years from 2000 to 2006. She scored junior cricket every week while her two boys played during this time. She became KI Cricket Association Junior Records Officer in 2000 and held this position for six years.,
Parndana Sports Club
Sharon was on the sub committee formed in 1995 to organise the amalgamation of our local sporting bodies.
She became vice-president in the first year and held this position for three years. She became President in 2000 and served in this role for seven years.
Sharon was involved in the grant preparation that saw us successful in receiving a grant in 2002 that enabled us to build our wonderful new kitchen, changerooms and the verandah on the club rooms.
She was involved in the planning of the new kitchen. It is largely due to her involvement and energy, that we have many of the facilities that we all take for granted today.
The Parndana Sports Club is extremely proud of Sharon’s achievements and we congratulate her on her Life Membership.
