Kingscote v Wisanger
In Senior Colts old rivals Kingscote and Wisanger squared off for the Trethewey Shield, Wisanger winning the toss to take advantage of a slight breeze.
They were soon under the pump however, defending desperately at the northern end. With Dylan Edwards winning the taps, Khalil Hadland broke through to kick the Hounds’ first major, and constant forward pressure saw ace Rhys Lovering bag a couple more.
Good shepherding allowed a series of quick handpasses and a Laighton Virgo goal before Wisanger fought back. With Anders Berggren and Damon Tyley working hard, they got the ball to Josh Thomas for a left foot snap and goal. Second quarter was all Kingscote however as they piled on seven goals, mostly through the unstoppable Rhys Lovering.
Jake Hodder was also hurting Wisanger with accurate disposal, Kieren Wallace created a ton of drive from centre and Captain Will Crump and Josh Bates were impassable.
Down by 12 goals at half time, things looked to get worse for the blue boys when co-captain Sam Lewis was stretchered from the ground.
The deficit increased to 16 before Dylan Turner slipped the ball to Berggren in the square, soon followed by a Jae Tyley goal just before three quarter time. When Liam Sampson scored another to open the last term they had a sniff.
Ruckman Peter Collins went to Lovering to try and limit his influence, Will Whiting took on the damaging Edwards, but the Dogs went up a gear, another Lovering in Rory also proving a handful, and once again Kingscote blasted the goals to finally run out winners, 23-14 to 4-4.
Nine goals to Rhys Lovering, a sensational performance to win the John Williams medal as best on ground.
An unprecedented sixth premiership in a row for the Hounds, well done to Simon Lovering's boys on a powerful exhibition of team football, and also to Peter Boughen's young Panthers who gave it their all.
